UNDER THE HELMET

This 12-minute documentary follows St. John’s Jesuit, a Toledo high school football team, through it’s preseason as they prepared for their first season playing in a Detroit league.

It was a first attempt by The Blade at its own localized version of Hard Knocks, the popular NFL series. The length was to include preroll and midroll advertising.

OVER THE SHEEP FOR SILVER

Jacob Wukie is a 35-year-old husband and father of two girls in Fremont, Ohio who works as an operator at the water department of nearby Port Clinton. He’s also an Olympic silver medalist archer who practices by shooting diagonal across his property — over his sheep.

It’s the only way to get regulation distance, he says.

Wukie’s team won silver in the men’s team competition at the 2012 London Olympics. After taking time off for family in 2016, he returned to form for the Tokyo games. Though the team failed to medal, Wukie's inspiring story is an archetypal American apple pie kind of Olympic tale.

SERIALIZED FOOD SHOWS

I have produced serialized online food shows for The Blade for 5 years for two different food editors. The most current form is Meals with Maddie featuring Maddie Coppel. We work together on her recipe and script, and I create and direct each episode, including branding and motion graphics.

Cheap Eats was a restaurant meal show with former editor Mary Bilyeu that ran for 4 years, winning local media awards from the Toledo City Paper and the PressClub of Toledo.

Master Carol DeGroff-Van Zile leads the Great Lakes Global Taekwondo studio in Sylvania. Internationally recognized for excellence, two current students, Dr. Cora Lind-Kovacs and Lydia Delmonico, took home a slew of placement medals at the 2022 International Taekwondo Federation World Championship in Amsterdam.

Leading kids to adults for decades with the help of her own son, the family practice literally started from an episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
